Amorphophallus titanum is incredible — its amazing size and equally breathtaking smell have earned it celebrity status in the plant world. The genus name Amorphophallus is derived from Greek and means “shapeless or deformed phallus”, and the species name titanum means “extremely large”.

Scaevola taccada (syn. Scaevola sericea) is found on tropical beaches of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Due to its large native range, Scaevola taccada goes by many different local names. In Hawaiian, it is called naupaka kahakai. English common names include beach naupaka, beach scaevola, fan flower or half flower.

Fritillaria affinis has just begun flowering in the Garry Oak Meadow at the UBC Botanical Garden. The meadow is part of a recent initiative to expand the garden’s native plant collections.
