Light painting of Yucca brevifolia
If it’s okay, yet another entry highlighting Yucca brevifolia or the Joshua tree…
I’m away on a field trip with our Horticulture Training Program students, so I opted for a previously featured taxon today. For additional reading (all with updated links / tags / etc.), see Joshua Tree National Park from 2006, Yucca brevifolia from 2008, and Yucca brevifolia from 2013.
This was photographed at night, using a flashlight to paint the plant with light.

Thank you for the work you do for the plant world, Daniel. This light painting is neat.

A beautiful photo of an amazing desert plant. Flora of the desert is very interesting to a northerner!
Thank you! Elizabeth
Ditto very interesting as we cannot walk out and see them.
That’s a stunning photo. I’m surprised that the flashlight could illuminate it so fully. Was it a long exposure?
Yes, it is a long exposure. I don’t think I recorded how long — somewhere between 30 seconds and two minutes, I think, mainly because there doesn’t seem to be too much softening in the clouds nor does the moon appear oval.
And, I use a very powerful flashlight!
Thank you for the photo of one of my favorite plants. We had a Joshua Tree in the front yard on the ranch where I grew up in the high desert.
